On December 13, l937, soldiers of the Japanese
Imperial Army invaded the Chinese capital of Nanking and waged a campaign
of wholesale slaughter, rape and acts of torture so heinous as to defy
the imagination. At the end of six weeks, over 200,000 people were
dead, many of whom were civilian men, women and children. An estimated
80,000 women and young girls had been raped, a large number of whom
were then tortured and murdered. My film THE NANKING TRIPTYCH is a
ficitional meditation in three parts dealing with this dark chapter
in our human history. Each film or “panel” will look at a different aspect of this catastrophic event. Utilizing imagery of my dreams and nightmares, THE NANKING TRIPTYCH explores the forces that led to the terrors of the military regime and the legacy that it has left to future generations. THE NANKING TRIPTYCH is being designed to screen in traditional venues and film festivals worldwide, educational institutions as well as in museum and gallery installations.
